Chakra is a Sanskrit word for wheel. This is the term used to indicate the energy centers (sometimes called psychic center) which are a part of the etheric body. They are called "wheels" because to the clairvoyant they look like wheels and continuously rotate while drawing in energy.

In addition to the above definitions there are many colors and patterns perceived clairvoyantly around an individual. They reveal the state of evolution of the soul, mind, health of the person, and the quality of the person's concepts. This is called the aura which is an invisible, electromagnetic, intelligent energy field completely surrounding an entity, living and etheric, functioning as a blueprint and battery for that entity.
Along with the aura there is the chakra system, which is an invisible, inter-dimensional transducing system, running up and down the spine, being directed by man's thoughts. It has seven concentrated center of energy from the base of the spine to the crown of the head which convert cosmic energy into body energy and vice versa. This system transcends the constraints of time and space and connects humanity to the universe making man and the universe all one system.
Function of Chakra
The chakras or energy centers draw energy from the etheric atmosphere
to supply the spiritual body. The energy is then transmitted via the nervous system to the physical body.
Construction and arrangement of Chakra
There are seven chakras, according to traditional information, and they correspond in location roughly to organs or glands in the physical body.
(see diagram) However, according to Dr. Karagulla in her book, "Breakthrough to Creativity", there are eight major energy centers with a ninth smaller one at the back of the head.
The design of each chakra graduates in complexity beginning with the lowest one, the root chakra, which is very simple and which has four small spiral cones of energy. The next one, the spleen chakra, is a little more complex having six cones (Or spokes or petals, as they are sometimes referred to) and so on until the crown chakra is reached.
This is the most complex and beautiful to see clairvoyantly. It gives off the most light particularly when developed.
The two lower chakras (root and spleen) relate to the physical plane only - the physical functions and passions - and are not psychic. The two upper chakras (brow and crown) are connected with the pituitary and pineal glands respectively and come into action only through a certain amount of spiritual development. The developed throat chakra produces clairaudience.
If more information is desired on this subject, I recommend the book, "The Chakras"3 by C. W. Leadbeater.
